God's Continued Work...

In the spring of 2012 we engaged our church leadership in a visioning process along with a church-consulting firm that culminated in a Master Plan for expansion and ministry priorities for the next 8 – 10 years. The plan (information is located in the lobby) includes a children’s ministry facility, a worship center, rooms for Sunday Bible Fellowship Groups, offices, the renovation of the existing building for student ministry, and a beautiful water feature for baptism and retention. While the plans are not rigid expectations of exactly how everything will look, they do provide a template for us and a way to pray into our future. They also help us identify a step-by-step strategy for implementation.

The first part of this strategic plan was acquiring the adjacent 6 acres of land on Spring Cypress. It’s been 6 months since that amazing 6 weeks last fall where we came together as a church to pledge our 3-year gifts in order to acquire the land. The road construction in front of the property is complete and I think we can all see the amazing benefit that this property will bring for ministry in years to come. What a blessing for the future family of The Brook Church!

I have received some questions from people as to “What’s next?” Well, my response up to this point has been “Nothing, right now.” After an intense time of communication and prayer in the fall of 2012, we have been able to simply rest in God’s gift and focus our attention on other matters. Your faithful giving has allowed us to be ahead of schedule in the pledge campaign. For this we are thankful!

Last week, for the first time since acquiring the land, the Long Range Planning Team began discussions about subsequent steps for the church. In our long-range plan, the next facility we build will be a building that will house children’s ministry and address other ministry needs. The process is so long and involves so many details we felt it right to actually begin talking. For example- if we are to begin to build in 2-3 years, then we must begin now to discuss many of the details. Good planning will involve 18 months to 2 years of talks, plans, consultation, and prayer.

So, I wanted you to know as our church family that discussions are under way and to ask you to pray for our church from the onset.

Here’s some other good news that we can pass along: Because of your faithful giving and generous hearts, we are able now to acquire a modular building for our student ministry. This building will be temporary and therefore will only be leased, but it will accommodate our ministry to teens in the form of worship, Bible study and recreation. This building will also have more space available for our Sunday BFG’s to meet. You should begin to see some changes to the landscape soon and we hope to have the building in place and ready to use in about 90 days.

God is good to us isn’t He?!

As we move our church into the future, please know that we do so in the spirit of building God’s Kingdom and having the courage and faith to follow Him. The sky is the limit for The Brook as to the life-change we can witness in people and the impact that we can make in our community. Find the faith within yourself to see the possibilities and to not limit what God could do in and through us together.

As we pursue these strategic steps and are careful to do only God’s bidding, I know He will move, and work, and provide even in more ways than we can imagine.

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday!

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Mike

  1. Mike, the main thing that keeps me coming back to The Brook is the honesty, humility, and faithfulness with which you lead our church. A church is only as strong as its leader, because that leader leads the flock to spiritual growth. Your continuous biblical studies enhances you not just as a professor, it advances "our" walk through the Scriptures and "our" growth as Christians. When you don the hat of Pastor, we eagerly look to you for a good "sermon feeding". I know! I know! -- We should know that you provide the roadmap and it's up to us to use it to maneuver through all 66 Books. Nevertheless, sheep need a shepherd --- thanks for being mine.

  2. Mike, last July when I walked in to worship at The Brook, it felt like I had finally walked in the home Church that I had been needing for a long time. The bonus was that Jesus met me there and so did you and several others that came to introduce themselves and welcome me.
I'm blessed to be a part of a congregation that has a Leader with such a wonderful gift of teaching and a passion for God. Thank you for sharing your passion and gifts with us, for leading us in the truth and love of his word. Lou Pommerencke
